Download and installation issues

Users, who have bought F-Prot Antivirus for Windows the home user version, may install it on up to 5 computers in their household that are used for personal purposes.

If you have more than 5 computers in your home you can contact our sales department to find a solution that best suits your needs.

It is unnecessary to install both the corporate version of F-Prot Antivirus for Windows and F-Prot Antivirus for Windows Mail Servers on the same computer. The corporate version of F-Prot Antivirus for Windows and F-Prot Antivirus for Windows Mail Servers are identical programs apart from the licensing aspect and need not be installed twice on the same computer. For further information, see the product details for F-Prot Antivirus for Windows - Corporate Users.

If the corporate version of F-Prot Antivirus for Windows is already installed and you would like to install F-Prot Antivirus for Windows Mail Servers, the InstallShield Wizard will refer to the F-Prot Antivirus Setup Maintenance program and ask you if you would like to modify the current installation, repair the components, or remove the installed components.

Unfortunately, updates via FTP are no longer supported. Updates are available via HTTP.

Yes. But FRISK Software does not guarantee users for 100% successful downloads all the time. Although a download manager or a similar download utility is an indispensable tool for download acceleration. We highly recommend downloading our softwares from our download site to ensure 100% download.

FRISK Software can in no way be made responsible for unsuccessful downloads using a download manager or a similar utility.

The reason for this error is that F-Prot Antivirus Updater is unable to connect to the Internet.

Solution:

  1. Check the connection. If you are not connected to the Internet, an update of the virus signature files via the Internet will not function.
  2. What version of F-Prot Antivirus is installed? Please make sure you have the latest version available. The current version is 3.16f. Please upgrade if necessary.
  3. Do you have a firewall installed? Many personal firewalls take it upon themselves to close all traffic unless it is explicitly opened. Make sure that the Updater is “allowed” through to update.
  4. Do you connect through a proxy? F-Prot Antivirus Updater does not support Proxy authentication, i.e. you cannot set user and password to connect through proxy.
  5. Do you have Internet Explorer installed on your computer? Please note that you have to Internet Explorer 4.0 or newer installed on your computer to be able to use the Updater. Check whether Internet Explorer is set to "work offline". If that is the case set it to "work online".
  6. Make sure that your customer number is correct. If you do not remember your customer number, please contact our sales department and include the name that was used to purchase the license.
  7. If none of the above solves your problems contact support.
Note: This information is about CDs containing XCP content protection software developed by the British company First4Internet for Sony BMG.
Sony has released an update to the XCP copy protection that removes the cloaking technology component of XCP. Please go to http://cp.sonybmg.com/xcp/english/updates.html to obtain the update.

The complete uninstallation of the XCP copy protection software can only be done by sending an uninstallation request to Sony through their customer support. Please go to http://cp.sonybmg.com/xcp/english/form14.html for the request form.

For more information about XCP copy protection, please read the following:

Situation:
You just renew your subscription successfully. But when you try to update, the Updater says your subscription is expired.

The reason for this error is that the Updater is using your old customer number. During the renewal process you are requested to enter your old customer number, if you did not enter your old customer number where requested or entered it incorrectly, you were considered a new customer. Therefore a new customer number was created for you, with a subscription valid for one year from the date of the order.

Solution:
Find your new customer number, it is included in the final e-mail confirmation you received when you renewed your subscription. Enter your new customer number in the Updater's settings. Use the cut and paste method to avoid errors.

There are three possible reasons for this error:
  1. If you install F-Prot Antivirus for Windows on Windows NT/2000/2003/XP you sometimes need to install it twice. When you install again, select "Repair".
  2. If you have a very old version of F-Prot Antivirus for Windows and install a new version without uninstalling the old version this error may occur. See solution below.
  3. If you have F-Prot Antivirus for Windows installed on a computer running Windows 95/98/ME and upgrade to Windows NT/2000/2003/XP and install F-Prot Antivirus for Windows again, you may receive this error. See solution below.
The F-Prot Antivirus Updater uses port 80 (HTTP) to update the virus signature files.
A lot of Internet functionality in Windows relies on Internet Explorer 4.0 or newer. As our program is designed to function very intricately with the operating system, we require that our users have Internet Explorer 4.0 or newer in order for our program to function correctly.
